Interview with Pavel Boev
Tell us please about the blood donation program of the Deloitte Charity Fund.
Twice a year, blood donation days are held at the company's Moscow office as part of the Deloitte Charity Fund donation program. Donor days are an important part of our company’s social responsibility and part of the “corporate DNA”. The basic principle of Deloitte is to do what is really important. Every day we bring benefits to our customers, employees and society as a whole. The donor action has been held for six years together with the Charitable Foundation “Podari zhizn'” and the Blood Center of The Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA Russia).
Deloitte is a multinational services network. Do you provide donor campaigns in other countries?
Similar actions are carried out in other countries where our offices are located. For example, last year colleagues from the Deloitte office in Tbilisi organized a blood donation campaign. On April 24, a team of doctors from the City Blood Transfusion Station, one of the leading blood banks in Georgia and supplier of blood to Tbilisi children's and adult clinics, organized an on-site donation campaign at the Deloitte office.
How many employees from the Moscow office participate in donor campaigns?
On average, about 70-100 people participate in each action.
How do you promote donor campaign?
We use various communication channels: plasma in the office, Instagram, corporate emailing, posters and, of course, word of mouth.
Could you tell us about your preparation process for campaign?
First, we coordinate with the representative of the Blood Center of the FMBA Russia a convenient day for the event. Then we create a list of potential donors and send them requirements for blood donation in advance. We equip a temporary laboratory in the Deloitte office on the second floor, where we also provide breakfast for donors.
What problems did you face during the campaign? What would you recommend to be considered in order to avoid possible problems?
It is important to inform employees in advance of requirements that will allow them to become donors. According to the rules, before donating blood, each potential donor has a free medical examination - examination by a transfusiologist and preliminary laboratory examination. It is very important to choose the right day for the promotion. We try not to hold it on Monday, because after the weekend some may have alcohol in their blood. It is also important to consider that not only Deloitte employees, but also colleagues from other companies may want to take part in the action. In this case, we have to think ahead the way people may enter the office in order to avoid security problems.
And our traditional question: what would you say to donors and those who are just going to participate?
Today, the charity is becoming widespread. No matter if you give 100 rubles via sms, sign up for regular transactions from a credit card or donate immediately a large amount to a specific project. Help is important. It is no coincidence that those who donate are often called donors.
Unfortunately, the tradition of blood donation in our country is not so widespread. Meanwhile, without transfusion of donor blood components, it is impossible not only to cure children and adults with various diseases, but also to save the lives of victims of accidents. If everyone who can will donate blood at least once a year, we can save many lives. Never forget about the opportunity to help other people who really need it.
For the Russian Engineering Union, donorship became an important idea uniting people - employees of hundreds of enterprises. The wealth of experience of the donation development in the Union is an example of how to build a socially responsible work in a company at a high level and with the maximum result. This was told us by the vice-president of the Russian Engineering Union, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy Vladimir Gutenev.
20th of April – National Blood Donor Day. We thank and congratulate all donors in Russia for their willingness to donate blood for patients in need of a transplant. Many donor’s events are held and of course many people donate blood on this day. We often ask donors in our interview about the donation procedure, what they feel, what they scare, what it means for them. Story about from Yegor Tischins’s life will help to answer these questions.
Most people know very little about donation and therefore trust the most unreasonable myths...
