Interview with Natalia Sidorova
What is the blood donation in the work of the Regional Youth Center of the Kaluga Region?
The work of the center includes three main areas - the organization and holding of various events for young people, the implementation of additional education programs, as well as social support for young people (financial payments to certain categories of citizens). In recent years, more and more young people are striving to take an active position: they participate in social projects, lead a healthy lifestyle. The Regional Youth Center supports such undertakings and, through various actions, gives young people the opportunity to fulfill themselves. This also applies to the development of the donor movement. Participation in donor campaigns is a very honorable mission, an opportunity for everyone to do a good deed and save someone's life. We always remind you that after donating blood once, you must donate blood after 4 months in order to successfully pass plasma quarantine. The development of permanent donation among young people is our main task.
Do you have a long-term plan for donor initiatives?
The regional youth center conducts blood donation campaigns with the support of the Kaluga blood transfusion station. Our cooperation began in 2018. Since then, we regularly hold donor events 4-5 times a year. We consider this cooperation successful, we have regular donors who find it convenient to donate blood in our center.
How do you prepare for events in the field of blood donation?
In anticipation of events, we publish announcements on our resources, prepare information for the regional media. We give comments to local radio stations and TV channels, if necessary. We also conduct mailings to educational institutions and various organizations with an invitation to join our projects.
Tell us about your team, who are involved in organizing and conducting donor campaigns?
Well, the employees of my department, the department of information support and social support of youth, are engaged in conducting donor actions in the Regional Youth Center. I have been participating in promotions for several years and by my personal example I show that helping someone is easy.
And our traditional question: what would you wish donors and those who are just about to join the donor program?
The most important is not to be afraid, not to think about the bad and not to doubt! Helping someone is easier than you assume. Participation in donor campaigns is a very honorable mission, a chance to do a good deed and save someone's life. Of course, not everyone can become a donor, there are a number of contraindications, for example, cardiovascular diseases or even low weight, but for everyone else, the blood donation procedure is painless, safe and even healthy.
Most people know very little about donation and therefore trust the most unreasonable myths...
