The All-Russian Donor Week at the Blood Center of the FMBA of Russia was opened by Veronika Skvortsova, the head of the Federal Biomedical Agency on 8 June.

“The promotion of donorship is like the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, as all who come to donation receive a full medical check-up. Moreover, according to studies by the World Health Organization, regular blood donation helps to normalize blood pressure, blood glucose, hemostasis, and several other indicators. Safe blood is vital for both treatment and emergency medical care, used in emergency situations and helps save the lives of mothers and newborns. Therefore, the development of the Blood Service is a social direction that affects the interests of the whole society, and the main emphasis is on maintaining and stimulating staff donation” - Veronika Igorevna.

A series of activities on the donor week provides an opportunity to take a proactive approach and replenish the blood bank of your city in order to maintain an irreducible supply of highly effective blood components. The preservation of donor activity in many cases is an integral part of the timely provision of medical care to patients with serious illnesses as well as emergency patients” - Sofiya Golosova, an Interim Director and Head Physician of the Blood Center of the FMBA of Russia.

E-mail alerts through the State Services portal were organized to attract participants to the event #OstavaysyaDonorom. Thanks to this, almost 9,000 people confirmed their desire to donate blood during the donor week. There are honorary donors of Russia among them.
