A memorial sign to the organizer of the Republican Blood Service Polina Mikhailenko was opened in Simferopol
The memorial sign is installed on the building of the Republican Blood Center. The event on this occasion was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Crimea, honorary donor of Russia Anton Lyaskovsky, the management and employees of the institution.
Significant facts about the life of the Honored Doctor of the USSR Polina Mikhailenko were rewealed, before the installation of the memorial sign.
“This noble woman arrived in Crimea in November 1920 together with the cavalry of Semyon Budyonny. After demobilization, she entered the medical institute and received the profession of a surgeon. In 1932 she became the head of the Crimean Blood Service. In the period from 1941 to 1944, Polina Mikhailenko headed the medical service of the Crimean partisan unit and performed the duties of a surgeon in difficult conditions. By decision of the country's government in 1942, she received a high award - the Order of Lenin. Polina Mikhailenko was also awarded the honorary title of Honored Doctor of the USSR, she is a holder of the Order of the Patriotic War of the second degree” – from press release of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea.
In a peaceful post-war life, Polina Mikhailenko returned to her duties as head of the Crimean Blood Service. She was the initiator of the construction of a new service building, which was successfully commissioned in 1961 and is still in use.
“Restrictive measures caused by the threat of the spread of COVID-19 have complicated the search for the burial place of Polina Mikhailenko. The search engines are planning to find the grave and start improving it after the restrictions have been lifted” - the Blood Center of the Republic of Crimea.
