FMBA of Russia provided the Festival of Donor Culture

As part of the festival, anyone in the absence of medical contraindications could donate blood for HLA typing. More than 60 Muscovites and guests of the capital took advantage of this opportunity to enter the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors.
«For more than 10 years, the Federal Medical-Biological Agency has been actively organizing work to form the largest registry of potential bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell donors in Russia. Today the Agency has created and is actively developing the Federal Register, in the system of which the data of existing state local registers has been successfully exposed, and this is more than 112 thousand records of potential donors. On the day when the entire world community celebrates Bone Marrow Donor Day, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who made such an important decision for themselves as joining the Federal Register. Only a significant increase in the number of potential bone marrow donors will increase the chances of a particular patient for a cure!» - Veronika Skvortsova, the head of the FMBA of Russia.
A lecture was also organized for the guests of the event by Maria Loginova the Head of the Research Laboratory of Applied Immunogenetics of the Kirov Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia. Participants were able to get information about bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell donation.
«The aim of the festival was to inform people about what bone marrow is, HLA typing and debunking stereotypes about, as well as to involve them in the culture of donation. Today, more than 60 people took advantage of the opportunity to donate blood and enter the Unified Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors, and this is a step towards solving a big problem. The more people become donors, the more chances seriously ill people have to save their lives,» Pavel Savchuk said, chairman of the Russian Red Cross.
