The XII All-Russian Blood Services Forum completed its work in Kaliningrad

More than 400 participants from 58 regions of the Russian Federation gathered at their main professional event - the XII All-Russian Forum of the Blood Service, which was held in Kaliningrad on 6th of December.

Representatives of state authorities, representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Federal Biomedical Agency, general managers and leading specialists of blood service institutions, representatives of business and non-profit organizations, donors and partners of the Blood Service have discussed the results of the work of the All-Russian Blood Service in 2019, its achievements, important issues and, plans for the future development.

The plenary session was opened by the report of Vladimir Uyba, the head of the Federal Biomedical Agency of Russia. He spoke about the goals and objectives of the Blood Service for 2020.

“We started a large, full-scale development of donation and modernization of the Blood Service in 2008. 11 years have passed, now a second wave of modernization is needed. Technologies have changed dramatically” - Vladimir Uyba, head of the Federal Biomedical Agency of Russia.

The FMBA plans to create centers for the preparation and processing of plasma in order to develop domestic production of blood products.

The Minister of Health of the Kaliningrad Region Alexander Kravchenko spoke about the development of the Blood Service - the number of donors in the Kaliningrad region reaches 10,000, 95% donate blood free of charge.

Nina Kabanchuk, head of the blood transfusion station of the Kaliningrad region with 40 years of experience, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Excellent Health Officer of the Russian Federation, holder of the Order of Honor, holder of the Order of Merit for the Kaliningrad Region and the eponymous badge, focused on the importance of the region constantly have an irreducible blood supply. That is why the department is actively working on the popularization of donation in the region, it holds campaigns “Lady Donor” and “Avtomotodonor”, celebrations in honor of World Blood Donor Day, etc.

Igor Paramonov, director of the Kirov Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion of the FMBA of Russia, spoke about complex and important topic, such as the development of bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell donation in a plenary session.

Tatyana Shahnes, PR director at LG Electronics, shared the achievements of the company, which marks this year the tenth anniversary of the corporate donor project and plans to actively develop this activity in the next 20 years. Alexander Chechetkin, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Russian Research Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology of the FMBA of Russia” made a presentation “Indicators and Trends in the Development of Blood Donation and its Components in the Russian Federation”.

“During the plenary session, the ceremony of awarding the departmental insignia - the FMBA of Russia medal “For Assistance to the Donor Movement” was held to the companies, institutions and organizations which are actively promoting the donor movement. For the first time, an international exchange of experience took place within the framework of the Forum: Maria Lundgren, Medical Director of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Transfusiology of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Transfusiology (Sweden, Skane) told Russian colleagues about the structure of the blood service and the development of donation in Sweden” - Forum reports.

The following events took part in the frame of forum: sectional meeting with international participation “Experience of interaction with the donor contingent. Advocacy of voluntary donation”, a round table for the leaders of the blood service institutions “The Modern Blood Service of Russia: tasks, prospects, priorities ”, sectional session for specialists of blood service institutions responsible for promoting blood donation and its components, work with public organizations and the media.

The final most anticipated for the forum participants event of the XII All-Russian Forum of Blood Services was the summing up of the Professional Skill Competition.

Among the winners:

the Kursk Regional Clinical Blood Transfusion Station in the nomination “The secret of success - constancy” (the best project in the field of developing free of charge regular blood donation and its components) with the project “Saturday is not a job”;

the Vologda Regional Blood Transfusion Station No. 1 in the nomination “Time for grown up thing to do” (a youth project in the field of volunteering aimed at promoting and developing voluntary gratuitous donation of blood and its components), with the project “Everyone is Important ...”;

the Saratov Regional Blood Transfusion Station in the nomination “When hearts beat echo in time” (the best project in the field of blood donation and its components, implemented by the Blood Service institution together with a non-profit organization), with the “Together we can help!” project.

The winners from different regions of the country in the nomination "The best medical worker of the Blood Service of 2019" were also awarded. In the category “transfusiologist”: Ayuipova Raila Fayazovna, head of the quality assurance department of the blood transfusion station of the Republic of Bashkortostan, in the category “doctor of the clinical diagnostic laboratory” the winner was Lyudmila Fedorova, head of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the blood transfusion station of the Republic of Mari El , in the category “nurse”: Davidovich Tatyana Mikhailovna, medical assistant of the visiting team of the blood preparation department of the Kaliningrad Regional Blood Transfusion Station, in the category Laboratory assistant: Baybulatova Gulnaz Mansurovna, medical laboratory technician of the Branch of the blood transfusion station of the Republic of Bashkortostan in Sterlitamak.

The participants expressed an unanimous opinion that the recommendations of the forum will contribute to the development of common approaches and to the solution of urgent tasks aimed to the further development of the Blood Service in the Russian Federation.

On May 27, Ivanovo welcomed the opening of a new modular plasma center under Russia’s Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA), marking a key milestone in the implementation of the Concept for Increasing Plasma Blood Collection for Pharmaceutical Production. Developed by the FMBA under the directive of the President and the Russian Government, the strategy was approved on February 9, 2023, by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The new facility will have an annual capacity of over 30 tons of blood plasma.

Leading up to national donor day on april 20, a nationwide awareness campaign took place across Russia. In the week starting April 14, 2025, blood donation centers across Russia hosted a series of events to raise awareness about blood, blood component, and bone marrow donation. These events offered the public a chance to attend lectures, take part in tours, join workshops and open discussions with medical professionals, connect with experienced donors, and, most importantly, make their own donations. Participants learned more about the donation process and heard real stories from people whose lives were saved thanks to donors.
