"Sportsmen should be ambassadors of good deeds": Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Svetlana Romashina became a donor

14.09.21
A corporate social action "Donor Day" organized by LG and Technopark in honor of the Olympic Games in Tokyo took place in St. Petersburg.

Synchronized swimming star and eight-time Olympic champion, 21-time world champion, 13-time European champion Svetlana Romashina, as well as Paralympic athlete, blogger and TV presenter who conquered Elbrus and the Bosphorus Dmitry Ignatov came to donate blood.

Synchronist Svetlana Romashina admitted that she had never been a donor before, although she had always dreamed about it. But her sports life did not allow her to do this, and now she finally had a chance. Svetlana's husband supported her in this decision.

“The other day I discussed donation with my husband. He donated blood as a student, his classmate was sick, and the whole group went to help. Such cases must be heard. Athletes are watched by the whole world. We should be ambassadors of good deeds; children look at us. We should tell you that good deeds are worthless” - Svetlana Romashina.

Paralympian Dmitry Ignatov also believes that athletes should be ambassadors for good deeds. It is a great honor for him to become a donor. Once, someone else's donor blood helped him survive in difficult times.

The event was also supported by the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University named after V.I. Lenin "LETI", one of the leading universities in the city.

“More than 50 people took part in the Donor Day: employees of the St. Petersburg office and the LG research laboratory, representatives of Technopark, the staff of the Nevsky Center TV channel, Medical Volunteers, as well as students of The Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University and ETU “Leti”. Well, no man is an island and harmony and kindness are stronger than stone walls. We always talk about this with our partners in the donor movement” Tatiana Shahnes explained, Director of Public Relations and Social Projects at LG.

Writing “Thank you, donor!” appeared in honor of the event at the 42-story business center Leader Tower in St. Petersburg, where the 112th LG Electronics Donor Day was taking place. The bright lights of the project symbolize a kind of transfer of the donor relay to St. Petersburg from Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, where Donor Days were held with the participation of the first vice-president of Crocus Group Emin Agalarov and Russian football coach Valery Karpin.

“Our company has been conducting educational activities in the field of donation and healthy lifestyles for many years. Donor Day is supported by world-famous athletes, participants in the Olympic Games. This underlines the scale and importance of our charitable mission” YoungNam Roh said, President of LG Electronics in Russia and the CIS.

Over the 12 years of the project, various cultural and sports figures have joined the LG Donor Days. Among them are Leonid Slutsky, Valery Gazzaev, Artem Rebrov, Yegor Konchalovsky, Yulia Baranovskaya, Olga Kabo, Daria Moroz, Tatyana Navka, Alexey Nemov, Edgard and Askold Zapashny, Nikolai Valuev, Svetlana Khorkina, Konstantin Tszyu and many others.
