29.10.21
Life-sized figures of Russian and foreign medical workers in the field of donation of blood and its components can now be obtained for use in donor campaigns by the organizers of the donor movement in Moscow. Creative stylized images of Andrey Wolf, Karl Landsteiner, Vladimir Shamov, Alexander Bogdanov and William Harvey will not only tell about the first achievements of medical science in blood donation, but also by QR codes direct to informative websites.

Andrey Wolf is a St. Petersburg doctor who, in 1832, was the first in Russia to perform a successful man-to-man blood transfusion.

Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian and American scientist, made the discovery that the blood of different people is divided according to group affiliation (the AB0 blood group system). For this, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1830.

Vladimir Shamov, a Soviet surgeon, later a lieutenant general of the medical service, performed in 1919 the first transfusion in Russia taking into account blood groups, he also expressed the idea of preserving and transfusing cadaveric blood.

Alexander Bogdanov is the first director of the Institute of the National Medical Research Center for Hematology, the oldest institution of the blood service in Russia: physician, economist, eminent philosopher, politician, natural scientist and science fiction writer. From 1921 he devoted himself entirely to scientific research, mainly in the field of gerontology and hematology. Back in 1908, in his scientific utopian novel "The Red Star", he described the method of exchange blood transfusion and formulated his views on the function of blood as the main organizing mediator that ensures the viability of the organism.

William Harvey's theory of blood circulation, developed in the 17th century, fundamentally changed the views of doctors, who were previously guided by the works of Aristotle and Galen: blood is formed in the liver from food and moves through veins that blindly end in organs.

“Figures of outstanding scientists who have had a tremendous impact on the development of transfusiology, donation of blood and its components can become art objects in creative photo zones both at campaigns to replenish the Moscow blood bank, and at organizational meetings of volunteers, educational events about donation.
