The President of Russia called the support and rehabilitation of the veterans of the special military operation (SMO) through sports a collective moral duty and priority.

“Special tasks also lie ahead for the Paralympic Committee, which should participate in the development of amateur and mass components of adaptive sports. I draw the attention of all colleagues: we need to do this taking into account projects aimed at the rehabilitation of the veterans of the special military operation. This is one of our unconditional priorities, our collective moral duty - to support our heroes”, - said Vladimir Putin.

In turn, the head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency told how leading medical and scientific institutions of FMBA Russia provide a comprehensive approach to treatment and rehabilitation of military personnel. Veronika Skvortsova highlighted that FMBA Russia is actively introducing modern technologies and methodologies to ensure high-quality medical care for the participants and veterans of the SMO.

Since 2022, the Agency’s staff has provided medical care to more than 84,000 SMO participants and veterans. The powerful system of comprehensive rehabilitation is working on the basis of 69 medical organizations of FMBA, developed special rehabilitation programs that take into account the features of war injuries. Since 2023, together with the state foundation «Defenders of the Fatherland» and CIF Ministry of Industry, the Agency conducts individual prosthesis of lost limbs.

«Since 2009 we provide medical and biological support to athletes of all national teams in Russia, including the Paralympians. Having a wide range of modern medical technologies and scientific developments, we consider important to focus our work on the return of participants and veterans of special military operations to full civilian life by combining their medical rehabilitation with psychological adaptation and socialization, their involvement in physical education and sports, including adaptive and paralympic sports», - added Veronica Skvortsova.

Considering the presence of post-traumatic stress disorders, a unit of psychological correction and adaptation is included in rehabilitation from 2023. The FMBA of Russia has established a medical-psychological support reference center, whose staff provide both emergency psychological assistance and long-term support. Specialists of the Center have already conducted 1,500 psychological consultations for SMO members and their families.

The head of the Agency noted that in accordance with the President’s instructions, in 2022 and 2023 two Centers for medical rehabilitation and restorative treatment of athletes - «Oka» in Lake Moscow region and «Orion» in Kislovodsk - were put into operation. These centers have created all the necessary conditions not only for rehabilitation and health recovery but also for continued training and increasing physical potential under medical supervision.
