Blood banking mobile complex — technical capabilities of the Russian Blood service

Research-to-practice conference and exhibition «Defense industry of Russia — new opportunities for the medical industry» were held in Tula, July1. The event was organized by the Military-Industrial Commission board of Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health and the government of the Tula region.
The aim of the event was to demonstrate existing medical devices and equipment at the enterprises of the defense industry of the Russian Federation, and to discuss future areas of cooperation between companies working in defense industry and medical industry. Experts believe that such cooperation will be beneficial not only for both sectors, but also for the economy in general, as it will contribute to the effective implementation of the replacement policy in the Russian market of imported medical devices and equipment. Emphasis will be placed on the production of high-tech equipment and medical devices and on the possibility of their introduction into modern methods of treatment in the Russian health care system. That will make health care qualitative and more affordable for the population of Russia.
For example, in the section «Public Health» of the exhibition a unique mobile complex of blood banking of FGBUZ Blood Center FMBA of Russia was demonstrated to participants of the conference. Mobile complex of blood banking (MCBB) created for collection of blood and its components in field conditions based on a medical transport module. MCBB is served by medical personnel and allows the blood collection from 5 donors. The complex allows to carry out preliminary examination of a donor blood, the primary fractionation of blood into components; to implement blood banking and the hardware plasmapheresis, storage and transportation of banked blood and its components with the compliance with required temperature regimes. The complex is fitted with all the necessary medical equipment, energy and water systems, as well as air conditioning.
«Thanks to the work of mobile complexes our colleagues have the opportunity to go over long distances and to work with large number of donors. In addition to its main task (reception of donors) the complex serves as another communication tool aimed at attracting the attention of our citizens to the blood donation theme» — said Sofia Alexandrovna Golosova, the chief doctor FGBUZ Russian FMBA Blood Center.
Since 2008 in the framework of the state program of voluntary blood donation, complexes were sent to 62 service institutions, and they are still actively used at donor actions, including citywide actions.
