Coca Cola HBC volunteers donated blood

"Donor Day", organized by Coca Cola HBC in collaboration with Orel blood transfusion station, was hold in Orel on March 3. At the end of the event there were donated more than 11 liters of blood.

Donor drive was arranged at the territory of Coca Cola HBC branch office in Orel. A special mobile blood donation unit was there for volunteers. Orel blood transfusion station’s employees conducted medical survey of every volunteer to identify, whether they could be donors. 27 people donated blood: volunteers-employees of Coca Cola HBC and journalists, invited at the event. There were collected 11 liters of blood. In order to regain strength and energy donors had a healthy breakfast.

Blood transfusion annually saves millions of lifes all over the world. This procedure enables to conduct complicated operations successfully and helps patients in a critical and serious state. But in Russia as well as in other countries demand is outgrowing supply and medical services regularly face a serious lack of donor blood. That is why a volunteer’s engagement is necessary. Coca Cola HBC enables its employees to contribute to life saving and organizes "Donor Days" since 2008.

"A main donor’s motive is a sense of civic duty and desire to do a kind deed. Coca Cola HBC shares this commitment and regularly holds donor drives , – said Galina Kovtun, head of donor recruitment department in Orel blood transfusion station. – I’m glad to see that big companies hold such events. Thanks to these drives we can come on a scheduled basis and involve regular donors, what guarantees a viral and immunobiological safety of blood’s components".

On August 20, Head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova and Chair of the Elbrus Russian Leaders Club Tatyana Dyakonova launched an educational expedition aimed at creating modern, effective approaches to encouraging blood and bone marrow donation among young people.
