Yaroslavl blood transfusion station organized an excursion for schoolchildren

On April 11, medical staff of the GBUZ “Regional Blood Transfusion Station" made a sightseeing tour for schoolchildren. Students of 8 "D" class of "School No. 58 with in-depth study of subjects of the natural-mathematical cycle" of Yaroslavl had an opportunity to find out more about the work of the station.
Keen interest of children to the work of the Blood service station is not accidental – all of them are students of the class with in-depth study of biology.
The excursion began with a story about the history of the regional blood transfusion station, its functioning during the World War II and the modernization of the material and technical base in recent years.
During the excursion, students were very curious about the work of the station and "traveled" the path of the donor – from the registry to the operating room, visiting all structural divisions together with their teacher Valentina Ivanovna Baranova.
At the department of the donor preparation, students learned about what kind of medical examination must be done in order to become a donor, as well as how to prepare for blood donation.
The employees of the clinical diagnostic laboratory told children about the medical tests that must be passed in order to be allowed for the donation procedure of blood and its components.
At the immunological laboratory medical staff demonstrated blood group determination process.
The greatest interest among kids was caused by the demonstration of the work of equipment for frozen plasma storage.
At the end of the tour, a trivia game was organized among children, when they were able to test their knowledge of blood donation. Kids showed profound knowledge and received small souvenirs with Blood Service symbols.
