A large-scale campaign “Donor Family Code” to promote donation as a family tradition has started in Russia.

On February 16, a unique All-Russian campaign “Donor Family Code” was launched at the TASS site, dedicated to the Year of the Family. The campaign will become a flagship project to promote blood and bone marrow donation in 2024.

The organizers of the event are the Federal Medical-Biological Agency, the Coordination Council of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on blood and bone marrow donation, and the non-profit foundation “National Health Fund” with the support of the Russian Red Cross.

Integrating the theme year into blood and bone marrow donation is a trend that emerged in 2022. Olga Eichler, Head of the Department of Medical Support for Extreme Work and the Blood Service of the FMBA of Russia, noted the effectiveness of this strategy for promoting the topic of gratuitous donation.

“This approach to the development of blood donation and its components and bone marrow allows us to involve a larger number of newcomers, expand the formats for promoting and, at the same time, tell participants about the key events of the thematic year,” said Olga Eichler.

The “Donor Family Code” competition campaign is aimed at increasing the level of participation of Russians in blood and bone marrow donation and promoting it as a family tradition. The project focuses on the value and role of the family in creating a culture of assistance, care and support, which are inextricably linked with gratuitous donation and, of course, the family.

The action will be the third project to integrate the thematic year into the development of the donor movement in Russia. Promotions “Donor Cultural Code” in 2022 and “Donor Code. Mentoring" in 2023 brought together about a million people throughout Russia.

“My colleagues and I are confident that in 2024 the number of participants will be high, people are really looking forward to the event,” emphasized during her speech Elena Stefanyuk, director of the National Health Fund, deputy chairman of the Coordination Council at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for blood and bone marrow donation.

One of the main goals of the All-Russian campaign will be to encourage donor dynasties that pass on their commitment to gratuitous donation from generation to generation. A donor dynasty participated in the press conference: honorary donor of Russia Nikolai Neudobnov, Irina Neudobnova, daughter Vera and son Mikhail, who made a total of 333 donations.

The promotional competition “Family Donor Code” is held from February to November 2024. The participants of the action - Blood Service institutions, government officials, organizations developing corporate blood donation, non-profit organizations, foundations, individual participants - are implementing various events in the regions of Russia aimed at involving families in donation, promoting donation among young people and developing donation as a family tradition.

Until October 5, all participants send applications to the organizing committee about completed projects in 10 categories: “Donor Family Code”, “Quality Mark. Comfortable conditions for donor families”, “The region as one team”, “Expanding the boundaries of donation”, “Traditions of donation. Under the sign of care”, “Donor’s health”, “Family & Donation in focus”, “Family. Donation. NPO”, “Donation is a family matter”, “The best projects of regional branches of the Russian Red Cross”.
