Interview with Anna Krupko
What are your responsibilities as a coordinator?
My major task is to organize the entire process, including media and interaction with the university management. I also organize the work of volunteers, direct their actions throughout the campaign, keep in touch with the blood center, communicate with potential donors, and answer their questions about donation.
What are the key moments in the organization process?
The most important is to properly organize the donation process. It includes briefing the volunteers, explaining in detail their responsibilities. It is also fundamentally important to create a comfortable working space for the medical team and participants.
Tell us about your team, how the tasks on preparing and holding the event are distributed.
I follow the whole process so that the continuous chain of actions of the participants from the beginning of filling out the documents to the donation itself is not interrupted. We have guys standing at the “reinforcement” point before donating blood, helping the brigade employees, and coordinating the participants of the action, directing them to the right places in the “chain”. There are also volunteers monitoring the well-being of donors in order to provide timely assistance.
How was the information support for the Donor Day organized?
We provide media support for donor events on social networks, on the university website and on the website of the Russian Engineering Union. Information about the main event is distributed among students and employees. Assistance in information support is provided by the press center of the Omsk State Technical University and the Primary Trade Union Organization of students.
How was the last Donor Day?
It was perfect! We had experienced volunteers, they clearly fulfilled their duties. Thanks to good communication with the blood center, we managed to achieve better conditions. In total, 78 people came, 59 donated blood, and as a result, we managed to collect almost as much as 24 liters of blood!
Traditionally, you are supported by the Russian Engineering Union. How is this support and cooperation expressed?
The Union provides merchandise for the event: T-shirts for volunteers, ribbons, flags for donor tables and more. It helps with media coverage. A journalist regularly comes and documents event, interviews the participants, assists in solving possible problems. We are proud to cooperate with the Union, invite them to our faculty events, such as the annual concert dedicated to the Machine Builder's Day. We plan to continue to build strong relationships with the organization.
What donor events are planned for the summer and next school year?
We have been providing Donor Days twice a year, for several years. All students or employees may participate. We do not plan to stop, we will continue our important work.
Our traditional question: what would you wish donors and those who are going to join the donor program?
I wish all donors and those who are going to join the donor movement to continue doing good deeds. Not everyone will dare! Before donating blood, it is important to get acquainted with contraindications, to learn how to properly prepare for blood donation. Highly qualified medical workers and dedicated volunteers will always help you. Do not be afraid and remember that you can save someone's life.
Most people know very little about donation and therefore trust the most unreasonable myths...
Donor movement covers all who care about the fate of others, those who...
