Interview with Evelina Tomilova

Chelyabinsk regional blood transfusion station was the first in the All-Russian competition of professional skills of the Blood Service in the nomination «Do not miss important» and category «Best poster» with the project «Give five!» The author of the project Evelina Tomilova, a PR manager, told about the poster. It is an effective tool of propaganda, thanks to its visual and concise nature, actively used to promote donor actions among residents of the Southern Urals. In addition to blood donation, posters are also about friendship and unity around the good cause of peoples traditionally living in the region.

What was the concept of the project «Give five!»? Which target audience was intended for the message of the campaign?

The donor hand was chosen as a key element, as one of the symbols of the donor movement. During the preparation stage, a numerical analogy was made between the number of fingers and the number of facts about the donor movement: 5 fingers - 5 facts - 5 posters. As a unifying element, the braid with the traditional ornament in the territory of the Chelyabinsk region was chosen, tied to the hand.

The goal of the project is to tell future donors about the importance, ease and safety of blood donor process, about the bonuses to South Urals. We wanted to introduce the beginners with the algorithm of the donation procedure at the station.

What was the message to the audience? Who was responsible for the implementation of the idea - did professional creators work on the poster?

The idea of the series was based on the postulate «blood cell composition is the same in all people and does not depend on nationality». The development of the poster was carried out by a PR manager of our institution.

Where were the posters placed?

They were presented in the thematic tent of the station at three events: Children’s Day and Health Day, People’s Day and First grader Parade. Also posters were replicated in all units of the station, placed in mobile points of collection on the road actions.

What feedback did you get from the implementation of the project «Give five!»?

The event planners reported that more than 10,000 people attended each event. During the day, an oral survey of participants was conducted, which showed that the content is clear, accessible and positively perceived.

Our traditional question: what would you wish donors and those who are going to join the donor program?

Quote from one of our honorary donors: I wish all donors good health, and those who doubt, I wish to take the first step. It’s exciting, it’s heartwarming and it’s nice to know that you’re helping someone, that your blood is saving someone. Let there be less pain and more healthy people!

In March, a man came to the Samara Regional Blood Transfusion Clinical Station anonymously. He aroused the great interest of many donors and employees. Not everyone recognized Oleg Sheps at once. He registered like all donors, filled out the necessary documents and waited in the corridor. There was a whisper that a participant of the TV show «Battle of Psychics» is in the queue. Fans among donors and their family members turned out to be many. At each stage of the donor journey, Oleg was expected to take a photo. He didn’t refuse to anyone and told what motivated him to donate blood.
